Dorothy T. Schroeder, of Kanawha, died on Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the North Iowa Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. She was 86. Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 17, at the United Methodist Church, Kanawha. The Rev. Susan Detwiler officiated. Music was provided by organist, Joann Hansen who accompanied soloist, Pat Hartwig. Harlan Carlson ushered. Casket bearers were Bill Dahl, Donald Abbas, Ward Wright, Terry Johnson, Marvin Stupka and Robert Schroeder. Burial was in the Amsterdam Township Cemetery. The Ewing-Dugger Funeral Home of Kanawha was in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Terrell, was born on February 25, 1917 in Des Moines. She lived at the Woodward Children's Home in Marshalltown until she was 11 years old. At that time, Bill and Dot Ketchum of Rowan adopted her. She enjoyed playing softball. Dorothy was united in marriage with Carl Schroeder on August 31, 1940 in Rowan, Iowa. The couple made their home in Kanawha. A housewife and mother, Dorothy was employed for a short time as an assistant to the bus driver on the Hancock County bus for the physically and mentally challenged children in the area. She loved to garden and can vegetables for the family to enjoy all winter. She enjoyed bowling, playing horseshoes, and was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and of Iowa Hawkeye football. Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanawha, where she had taught Sunday School, was the Sunday School Secretary and helped with the Bible School program. She was a very active life time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rebekahs, and held many positions in these organizations.

Survivors include her son, Wilfred D. and his wife, Colleen of Cleveland, Ohio; and a grandson, Ryan D. Schroeder of Cleveland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl on December 26, 1989.
