Fort Dodge MessengerEAGLE GROVE — Roger Allen Morgan, the son of John A. and Ovedia (Halgrim) Morgan was born September 12, 1939 in rural Wright County. He attended grade schools in Wright and Humboldt Counties and graduated from Eagle Grove High School with the class of 1958. During his high school years, he developed a keen interest in livestock and pursued such interest in raising purebred and crossbred hogs for breeding purposes, and showing hogs to championships at various venues. He also crop farmed for many years. In later years Roger worked as a hog buyer for Lynch Livestock.
On January 20, 1962, Roger was united in marriage to Diana Barbara Simons of Fort Dodge, Iowa and they made their home in the Eagle Grove area, residing at their current home since 1977. Roger was an avid sportsman, playing softball around the area on local teams. After playing for many years, he enjoyed coaching baseball and softball.
Roger died April 2, 2008, at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota at the age of 68 years, surrounded by his wife and children. He was preceded in death by his parents. Roger is survived by his wife Diana, daughter Sheri L. Morgan of McAllen, Texas; son, Roger Allen Morgan, Jr. and wife Julia of Durant, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Dalton, Brody and Haley of Durant, Oklahoma; brothers, Ronald Morgan and wife Shirley, of Fort Dodge, John Morgan and wife Gayle, of Eagle Grove; and sister, Mary Middleton and husband Harold of Clarion, two great-aunts, Thelma Ventling, of Webster City and Delores Buhner, of Eagle Grove and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church of Thor at 1:30 p.m. with Pastors Chris Lang and Paul Stone officiating. Visitation will be Friday, April 4, 2008, from 5 p.m. to7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in East Ullensvang Cemetery near Thor. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
