MASON CITY -- May Hartbeck, 94, formerly of Klemme, died Saturday (Oct. 5, 1996) at the Heritage Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, with the Rev. Georgia White-Kisslring as officiant. Burial will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme. Visitation will be held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E.
Fourth St., Garner, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.

May Anna Hartbeck, the daughter of Charles Richard and Maude Estella (Temby) Rosenau was born May 1, 1902, on a farm in Wright County. May graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1920 with a Normal Training Teaching Certificate. She taught in a rural school near Klemme. In 1923, she was married to Leslie Leonard Hartbeck at her parents farm home near Ventura. They farmed near Klemme until they retired in 1952 and moved into Klemme. After her sight and health failed, she moved to Heritage Care Center in Mason City in April of 1990. She enjoyed her family, sewing and reading. She was an active member of Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, especially enjoying Dorcas Circle and making quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Lucille Jurgemeyer and her husband, Louis, of Garner, Marjorie Jurgemeyer and her husband, Everett, of Mason City, Esther Seim and her husband, Gene, of Marshalltown, and Miriam Fritezmeier and her husband, William, of Muskegon, Mich.; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie L. Hartbeck, Sept. 15, 1969; an infant great-grandson, Derek Seim; her parents; a sister, Vida Bokelman; and two brothers, Fredrick Rosenau and Emil Rosenau.
