CLARION - Wilhemina (Minnie) Ellen Heitland, 87, formerly of Clarion, died Thursday (Nov. 4, 1999) at Westbrook Acres Care Facility, Gladbrook. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Saint John's Catholic Church, Clarion, with the Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in Goodell Cemetery, Goodell. Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, was in charge of arrangements.

Wilhemina (Minnie) Ellen Boerjan was born Feb. 4, 1912, the daughter of August and Mary (Baker) Boerjan, at Rockwell. She was raised and educated in St. Ansgar. She was united in marriage to Sylvan Maertens in 1931 and they later divorced. She then married Abel Heitland in 1953, and for many years they owned and operated Heitland's Bar and Grill in Goodell. She enjoyed tending to her flowers and fishing. After her husband Abel's death in 1979, she moved to the Southtown Apartments in Clarion.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley McGonigle and husband, Rick, Clarion; three sons, Roy Maertens and wife, Joan, Mason City, Bill Maertens and wife, Iola, Toledo, and John Maertens and wife, Pat, Mesa, Ariz.; step-daughter, Kathleen Cormier, Greene; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, John and George Boerjan, both of St. Ansgar. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Abel, sister, Ida Taets, and brothers, Henry, Frank and Ben, and one step daughter, Alberta Mathers. Willim Funeral Home
