9/28/1995Verbelle B. Gilpin, 81 of Goodell, died Wednesday (Sept. 27, 1995) at the Kanawha Community Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Klemme with the Rev. William Green officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell. Visitation will be at the Tenold Funeral Home in Klemme from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour before services Saturday.
Verbelle Beryl (Riley) Gilpin, the daughter of Richard Riley and Gladys (nee) Lewis Riley, was born Oct. 31, 1913, at Fort Dodge. She attended school through the ninth grade in Webster City and came to Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School. She was united in marriage to Leon J. Gilpin on Nov. 29, 1933, at Fort Dodge. They farmed near Klemme until Leon's death and Verbelle moved to Goodell. She had been a resident of the Kanawha Community Nursing Home the past three years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Klemme, UMW, Methodist Women's Circles, Jolly Workers Club, Sunshine Club, Senior Citizens in Goodell and the Kitchen Klatter Band in Meservey. She enjoyed crafts, fishing, the outdoors and especially her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith Fenske and her husband, Willard, of Mankato, Minn.; sons, Clarence Gilpin and his wife, Ruth, of Klemme and Paul Gilpin and his wife, Deb, of Thornton, Colo.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Flossie Lentch of Scotts Bluff, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and an infant daughter, Cora Gilpin.
