Rose Lorraine Thompson, 88, of Kanawha passed away Thursday (March 23, 2006) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services for Rose Thompson will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Kanawha Lutheran Church with Janelle Siffring, AiM and the Rev. Ron Kallem officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St., Kanawha, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Rose, the daughter of Edward and Louise (Hanson) Kallem was born May 16, 1917, in Rothsay, Minn. At a young age, she moved with her family to Nashua, Mont. They then moved to Iowa where Rose finished her education in country schools. Rose was united in marriage to Milford Thompson on Feb. 11, 1940 in Fort Dodge. The couple lived and farmed in the Kanawha, Gowrie, and LuVerne areas. Rose was a longtime member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She loved her family and the many hours spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, sewing quilts, and working with her flowers.

Rose is survived by her husband, Milford, of Kanawha; five children: Virginia (Harlan) Hansen of Rutland, Daryl (Ruby) Thompson of LuVerne, Dennis (Ruthanne) Thompson of Humboldt, David (Holly) Thompson of Kanawha, Douglas (Wendy) Thompson of Goldfield; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Elsie Minor of Marshalltown, Dorothy Cripps of Marshalltown, Jean Lee of Bellevue, Neb., Joyce Champlin of Torrance, Calif.; two brothers: Kenneth Kallem of Marshalltown and Floyd Kallem of Alden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Louise Kallem; four brothers: Ernest, Donald, James, and Robert; and sister, Vivien Jones. Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel.
