Freda J. Lein, 78, Belmond, died June 16, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa. Services were held June 18 at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner with burial in the church cemetery. Freda, the daughter of Reinhard and Katherine Burma Van Gerpen, was born January 25, 1926 in Buffalo Center. She attended schools in Buffalo Center and graduated from Alexander High School. Freda married Arlon M. Lein on May 25, 1946 in Clarion. They made their home in Belmond and Klemme where they raised three children. She owned and operated her own beauty shop. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Jasper (Bud) and Russell; and a daughter-in-law Nancy. Freda is survived by sons Lowell (Nancy) of Cedar Rapids and David (Ardith) of Sioux Center; daughter Susan (David) Wehling of Burnsville, MN; special friend Herman Boelman; sister June (Allyn) Christensen of Clarion; brothers Don (Gervaise) VanGerpen of San Diego, CA; Dick (Velma) VanGerpen of Dows, Pete (Pat) VanGerpen of Iowa City, John (Edna) VanGerpen of Marion, Larry (Sandra) VanGerpen of Grand Forks, ND and Jerry (Marion) VanGerpen of Nampa, ID.
