Carl Pals, 83, died April 14, 2002, at Titonka. Funeral services were April 17, at Woden Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Kevin Jordan officiating. Music was provided by Mary Van Weelden, organist; and a men's quartet, John Smidt, Paul Tjaden, Gerald Redenius, and Harlan Eekhoff. Casket bearers were Dennis Kruger, Roger Seefeld, Harlan Eekhoff, Clarence Harringa, Albertus Kruger and Keith Mayland. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery near Britt. Military rites were conducted by Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Carl was born July 16, 1918, at rural Belmond, to Dirk and Reka (Loats) Pals. He attended country school near Belmond and then worked on the family farm. He served in the army during World War II, and upon his discharge worked at the General Mills plant in Belmond. He later started a feed grinding business. Carl was married to Odessa Anfinson on June 23, 1950 at Prairie Center Church near Britt. They later purchased a farm northeast of Wesley; and then a farm southwest of Woden that they farmed until retiring in 1986. Carl and Odessa later moved into Britt. Carl enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baseball. He was active in annual army reunions and stayed in touch with his army buddies. He was an active member of Woden Christian Reformed Church where he belonged to the Men's Society and served as deacon.

Preceding him in death were his parents; five brothers, Dick A. Pals, Andrew Pals, Bill Pals, Fred Pals, and Roy Pals; and five sisters, Mattie Smith, Sema Helland, Henrietta Kalkwarf, Grace Mennenga and Jennie Smith. Survivors are his wife, Odessa of Titonka; daughter, Jean Pals of Atlanta, Georgia; son, Dennis Pals and special friend Donna Nelson of Titonka; and son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Renee Pals of Titonka; grandchildren, Christopher, T.J., Kyle and Kailey.
