In 1944, he moved to Woolstock, where he was confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. In 1951, he moved to Kamrar and graduated salutatorian from Kamrar High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Army serving from December 1, 1959 to September 2, 1961. On October 7, 1961, Veryl was united in marriage to Linda Sollie at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. To this union five children were born. Veryl farmed crops and raised hogs, was a salesman for Paymaster and Cargill Seed, and had a real estate license. The couple moved to Webster City in 1995. Linda passed away in 2005. Veryl was united in marriage on September 2, 2006 to Martha Burgin at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Webster City. He enjoyed wintering in McAllen, TX from 1991-2021. Veryl was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda and his parents, Anthony and Jennie.

He really enjoyed the staff at Becky's Treasured Heart Agency. His belief in Jesus was an inspiration to many of the staff and he helped lead them to a relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ. Veryl felt he had a blessed life and was ready to go home to be with Jesus and be reunited with all of the loved ones who have gone before him. He also wants to see us there someday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Veryl's memory to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
