Emma Frances (Handy) Henry
December 12, 1894 --- November 1, 1971

WASHINGTON, Iowa–Mrs. Emma Henry, 76, a retired missionary, who lived at the United Presbyterian Home here, died Monday in Washington County Hospital.

A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday in the United Presbyterian Home here. Visitation will be today and tonight at the Sherman-Eden Funeral Home here.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the United Presbyterian Church, Goldfield, Iowa. Burial will be at Goldfield.

Mrs. Henry was a missionary and teacher in Ethiopia for 31 years before retirement.

Emma Handy was born at Mystic, Iowa. She married Duncan Henry in 1920. He died in 1952.

Mrs. Henry is survived by a daughter, Mrs. W. A. McCullen Jr., Casper, Wyo.; two grandchildren, and sisters, Mrs. Frank Hanson, Peoria, Ill., and Mrs. Jennie Manchester, Wichita, Kan.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma F. Henry, 76, of Washington, Iowa were held in Goldfield in the United Presbyterian Church Wednesday at 10:30 a m.

Rev. Frank M. Elliott had charge and the burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Henry died Nov. 1 at the Washington County Hospital, Washington, Ia. following a week's illness.

Mrs. Henry, the former Emma Hardy and was born in Mystic, Ia, to parents Mr. and Mrs. Elias Handy. She attended Grinnell College, Iowa State University, Ames, and Cornell College. She was married on July 28, 1920 to Duncan C. Henry at Creston.

Mrs. Henry was a missionary and school teacher to Ethiopia for 31 years. She was director of the Empress Menan School for Girls for 6 years there. She also taught school in Ezel, Ky. for 2 years. Mr. Henry died in Ethiopia in 1952.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W. A. McCullen, Jr., two grandchildren, all of Casper, Wyo. and 2 sisters, Mrs. Frank Hanson of Peoria, Ill. and Mrs. Jennie Manchester of Wichita,
Kansas.

Mrs. Henry had been a resident of the United Presbyterian Home since 1962. –Goldfield Chronicle.
