Gertrude M. (King) Bassett, 90, of North Brookfield, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 in Harrington Memorial Hospital. She leaves her loving husband of almost 64 years Conrad A. Bassett; 2 sons, Alan Bassett, who resided with them and Brian Bassett & his wife Gail of Barre, MA; a daughter Denise Silva of Oakham, MA & her partner David Griffiths; a brother Raymond J. King, Jr. of Pittsfield, MA; 3 nieces, Lisa Mariani and husband Michael, Lucinda Comstock, Leticia Pillsbury & husband Robert all of North Adams, MA; 3 granddaughters, Amanda Bassett, Emily Silva and Fiance Conor Silkey, and Meghan Silva; great grandsons Noah and Jaxon and several cousins from Connecticut. She will be sorely missed by all.
She was born June 9, 1931 and raised in Williamstown, MA the daughter of the late Raymond J & Alida (Gauthier) King, until she married in April 26, 1958. Gertrude graduated from Williamstown High School in 1949 and received her RN from St. Lukes Hospital in Pittsfield, MA in 1952. She worked at the North Adams Hospital in North Adams, MA in the Maternity Ward until moving to North Brookfield. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Gertrude once lived in Goldfield, Iowa for 5 years. She enjoyed lots of traveling while there, visiting the presidents’ birthplaces and libraries, among other civil war battlefields, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore and other historic places throughout the Midwest.
Gertrude also enjoyed baking, reading and knitting. She was a longtime member of St. Josephs Church in North Brookfield.
The funeral for Gertrude will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 with a Mass at 11:00AM in St. Josephs Church 296 N. Main St. North Brookfield. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Pillsbury Funeral Home 44 Gilbert St. North Brookfield. Donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
