Edward Thebiay
June 30, 1846 --- July 31, 1932

Edward Thebiay, 86, died Sunday evening at his apartment in the Thebiay building after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Thebiay is survived by eight children, his wife and one son having preceded him in death. The children are: Mrs. Mary Wasem, Harrisburg, S. D., Mrs. Addle Sadler, Mrs. Della Bulis of this city, Mrs. Jennie Weaver of Los Angeles, Calif., Arthur, Will and Mrs. Tressa Nelson of this city and Mrs. Edna Lewis of Willmar, Minn.

Mr. Thebiay was born in Remermont, France, June 30, 1846. When he was twenty years old, he came to the United States to Dixon, Ill., where he remained for three years. Mr. and Mrs. Thebiay then came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Troy township where they made their home until twenty years ago, when they built the home on West Broadway, which is now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Joe Moser.

For the last few years, he has made his home in the apartment in the building he owned in the business district. Mrs. Thebiay passed away last fall.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at nine o'clock at Sacred Heart church, and burial made in the family lot in Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Thebiay was a fine, progressive citizen. He took pride in his farm west of the city and after its sale, built an elegant home in Eagle Grove. His life's success is another example of what thrift, industry and enterprise can accomplish in this country. He was a poor boy when he came to this country, did not even know the language, but by hard work and sagacious saving, he accumulated a competence, which amply provided for his declining years. Those from out of the city who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Lewis and son of Willmar, Minn., Mrs. Mary Wasem, of Harrisburg, S. Dak., Mr. and Mrs. George Cole of Thor, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Johnson of Joliet, Ill., Leon, Emile, Ed and Adolph Barlow, all of Amboy, Ill.

The Eagle Joins the entire community in extending heart-felt and sincere sympathy to the surviving relatives.
