John Andrew Staley
March 18, 1942 — January 21, 1981

John Andrew Staley, the son of James and Alma Bailey Staley, was born on March 18, 1942 at Webster City, Iowa. He died on Wednesday morning, January 21, 1981 at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. He attained the age of 38 years, 10 months and three days.

John grew up and attended school in Webster City. As a young man, he joined the U.S. Army and served for three years. On January 19, 1963, he was united in marriage with Gloria Romer at the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964. In September 1967, he was in an auto accident and became paralyzed and was hospitalized for two years. He received a medical discharge from the Navy. The family lived in Webster City a short time and then moved to their present home in Eagle Grove. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria of Eagle Grove; three daughters, Tammy, Theresa and Tracy all of Eagle Grove; his parents, James and Alma Staley; and grandmother, Mrs. Mary Bailey, all of Webster City; his father and mother-in-law, George and Leona Romer, Eagle Grove; one brother, Jerry Staley, Webster City; and seven sisters: Judy, Mrs. Deanne Haack, Eugene Ore.; Janice Payne, Webster City; Janey, Mrs. Ted Dunn, Blairsburg; Jolene, Mrs. Curtis Dammen, Starkweather, N. D.; Joyce Staley, Ankeny; Juanita Staley, Webster City; and Jone Staley, Ankeny.

Funeral Mass for John A. Staley, was held on Saturday, Jan. 24, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Fr. John Hemann was the officiant and the burial was in the Calvary Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Military honors were conducted at graveside. A scripture service for the family and friends was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m.
