Vincent Joseph Saccento Sr. (1925-1990)

Vincent Joseph Saccento was born on August 27, 1925, the son of Joseph and Frances Grillo Saccento at Long Island City, N.Y. He received his education in Maspelh, N.Y., graduating in 1942.

Following his graduation, he went to work for J. J. Little & Ives, a book bindery company based in New York.

He entered the United States Navy on November 12, 1943, at New York, N.Y. He was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II, and was involved in the invasion of Okinawa. He received his honorable discharge having obtained the rank of Motor Machinist Mate, Second Class, at Lido Beach, N.Y., on December 29, 1945.

He was united in marriage to Lois Vest of Goldfield on June 29, 1947, at Maspelh, N.Y. The couple made their home in Maspeth before moving to Goldfield on September 15, 1950. In 1951, Vincent began working for Wright County in the road maintenance division. He was employed with the county until his retirement on August 1, 1987.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Goldfield, as well as the Goldfield American Legion.

Vincent Saccento died October 19, 1990, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion following an extended illness. He had attained the age of 65 years, one month, and 22 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Rose Saccento. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his son, Vincent Jr., both of Goldfield; two daughters, Mrs. Delmar (Irene) Adamson, Volin, S.D.; and Mrs. Brad (Leanna) Glover, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Joseph Saccento, New York City, N.Y.; three sisters, Mrs. John (Ann) Radigan of Centereach, N.Y.; Mrs. Jim (Joan) Fullam, Haupahaug, N. Y.; and Mrs. Ron (Frances) Jacobs of Jenson Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on October 23, at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. The Rev. James Seibert officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
