Merlyn L. Stark

Merlyn L. Stark, 66, of Eagle Grove, died on Monday, December 29, 2003, at the Wright Medical Center in Clarion. Funeral services were held Friday, January 2, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.

Merlyn L. Stark was born December 7, 1937 in Decatur County, Iowa, the son of John L. and Esther M. (Cole) Stark. He grew up in Decatur County and graduated from Leon High School. After graduation, Merlyn moved to Webster City. On February 12, 1966, he married Margaret (Lois) Weets at Duncombe. They have been longtime residents of Eagle Grove. Merlyn worked for Gold-Eagle Co-op in Eagle Grove for 35 years as a grain handler before retiring on February 21, 2003. Merlyn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Goldfield.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Lois) of Eagle Grove; five children: Katherine Gatewood and her husband, Charles, of Eagle Grove; Julia Langfitt and her husband, Leonard, of Goldfield; Jack Weets and friend, Luann Willard, of Eagle Grove; Larry Weets and his wife, Lori, of Goldfield; and Gina Weber and her husband, Joe, of Eagle Grove; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Neil Stark and his wife, Goldie, of Grand River; five sisters: Oneta Redman and Dons Redman of Osceola, Ellen Peterson and her husband, Dave, of Grand River; JoAnn Brink and her husband, Don, of Raytown, Mo.; and Martha Reasoner of Indianola; a sister-in-law, Nina Stark, of Casper, Wyo.; and two brothers-in-law, Junior Mason and Leonard Camp of Osceola. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Marjorie Akes, Ruth Camp, Ruby Stark, and Bessie Mason; six brothers: Noel, Dale, Leroy, Edgar, Cliff, and Donald Stark; and a great-grandson, Kurtis Rasmussen. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove is in charge of the arrangements.
