Eva May Stevens Parker
4 December 1870 --- 27 October 1927

Eva May Stevens was born at Manchester, Iowa, on Dec. 4, 1870, and died at Des Moines, Iowa, on Oct. 27, 1927. She was the daughter of Marcello and Adeline Stevens. She received her education at Sioux Rapids, Iowa, where the family had moved in 1878. On June 1, 1889, she was united in marriage to Leander T. Parker. A few months later they came to Eagle Grove where they have since made their home. There were born to them two sons, Lee, who died in July of last year, and Donald, now of Los Angeles, Calif.

Besides her husband and son she leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. Adeline Stevens of Marion, Iowa; her brother, A. B. Stevens of Selbert, Colo.; her sisters, Mrs. F. W. Hoskins of Beresford, S.D.; Mrs. P. C. Peterson of Spokane, Wash.; and Mrs. Cora Starbuck of Marion, Iowa; also, four grandchildren, LeRoy and LaVonne Parker of Sioux City, Iowa, and Richard and Robert Parker of Los Angeles.

Soon after coming to Eagle Grove, Mrs. Parker united with the Congregational church, where she continued a valued and faithful member until her death.

Tribute By Mrs. Sylvia Bangs

The earthly pilgrimage of this dear friend is over. The angel of death has touched the hand that could portray such beauty of form and color and has stiffed the heart whose generous promptings had so often brought happiness to others. She had been a member of the Congregational church for many years and had contributed generously to its interests. The recent decorative work in the church building was done under her supervision as chairman of the committee. This was a work of loving service on her part and the beautiful electric fixture in the dome was her gift. May we cherish her name in loving memory as the light shines out upon us. Mrs. Parker loved the work of the Eastern Star and was an officer in the White Shrine. The beautiful spiritual lessons taught in these orders entered deeply into her life and brought her into a closer relation to Him whose teachings they inculcate. While in Des Moines she had been greatly impressed by a memorial service which she attended. When the words were spoken, "Her sun has not set; she has just begun to live," she turned to a friend and said, "How beautiful".

The profusion and choice varieties of flowers in her garden which seemed to respond to her touch were lavishly placed on the altar where she rendered her devotion as well as often given in token of loving friendship. Her devotion to her family was a marked trait of her character and her little Grandchildren had her tenderest love.

To give pleasure to others was always in her thoughts and her final message to two of her friends before leaving for Des Moines was to be ready to go with her soon on an automobile trip which had been planned for some time. The earthly life of our friend has come to its close, but her memory will remain enshrined within our hearts.
