Fred Pogge, 86, died last Saturday at his home at Bonesteel, South Dakota. He was a brother of Chris Pogge of Renwick and lived in this community for a time many years ago.
Wm. Beenen, local undertaker, and Otto Swanson drove to Bonesteel last Sunday and brought the remains to Renwick.
Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the pastor, Rev J. H. Reents, officiating. Burial was made at Goldfield.
Fred Pogge, son of Chris and Doratnea Pogge, was born March 13, 1865, at Mecklenburg, Germany, and died at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 26 days at Bonesteel, South Dakota. He was baptised in infancy into the Lutheran faith.
At the age of 6 years, he came with his parents and brother to Davenport, Iowa, where he lived until 17 years of age when they moved to Wright county. A few years later he went to Chicago where he was employed for 2 years by the North Western Railroad Co. From there he went to South Dakota where he took up a homestead and later purchased additional land in Nebraska. He lived on his farm in South Dakota until the time of his death.
He was united in marriage to Lizzie Rinell in 1897. To this union was born one son, Clark, who survives and lives in Vancouver, B. C., Canada.
In the community where he lived, Mr. Pogge leaves a host of friends who will miss him greatly. He is survived by one brother, Chris Pogge of Renwick. One sister, who lived in the Renwick community, Mrs. Lulu Kraft, preceded him in death.
