Oscar Bjorklund, the son of Syvert and Marie Toresdahl Bjorklund, was born April 11, 1911, in Finnoy, Norway. It was here that he received his education before coming to the United States in 1929 at the age of 18. He worked on different farms in the Eagle Grove, Iowa, area until 1937 when he started with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad, doing construction work and cooking until 1960. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 - 1945 with Patton's 3rd Army in six major battles.

He was united in marriage on August 3, 1951, to Marie Wallace at Elk Point, South Dakota. He retired in 1960, and they moved to Eagle Grove, where they made their home.

Oscar Bjorklund died on Sunday, September 30, 2001, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 90. Survivors include a brother, Sverre of Sandnes, Norway; four sisters, Ingrid Kaali, Selma Lovik, Margit Sele, and Alma Nissen, all of Stavanger, Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie, in 1994; three brothers, Arne, Nils, and Magne; and two sisters, Anna and Borghild.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday (today), October 3, at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, in Eagle Grove, with the Reverend Ray Salemink officiating. Burial will be held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
