Sander Schnell
17 February 1907 --- 26 January 1986

Sander Schnell, the son of John and Elizabeth Miller Schnell, was born on February 17, 1907 at Harrington, [Herington] Kansas. He later moved to Goldfield, Iowa and received his education in the Goldfield schools. On January 15, 1928, he was united in marriage with Lillian Williams at Eagle Grove. The couple made their home in Goldfield and he was employed by the Wright County Maintenance Department until he retired in 1972. During his 37 years of employment, he worked on the Bridge crew, Road Maintenance and was a Dragline operator.

His many hobbies included gardening, enjoyment of the outdoors, including fishing, hunting and trapping. His talents were used many times in Community Service Projects.

Sander was a loving husband and father and enjoyed his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. During World War 2, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and the American Legion.

He died on Sunday, January 26, 1986, at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, where he had been a patient since January 13. He attained the age of 78 years, 11 month and 9 days.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Goldfield; his daughters, Betty, Mrs. Richard Shirley of Perry; Dorothy, Mrs. Beryl Reichter of Goldfield; Edna, Mrs. Dennis Stoll of Eagle Grove, Margery, Mrs. Glenn Trask of Ankeny, a son, Roger Schnell of Wapello; 20 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Beisel of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Amelia Broadfoot of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Kathryn Melhus of Des Moines, Mrs. Elizabeth Berg of Rock Island, Ill.; two brothers, Paul Schnell of Clarion, and Fred Schnell of Goldfield and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Sander Schnell, age 78 of Goldfield, were held on Wednesday, January 29, 1986, at 10:30 A.M. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Rev. Victor Victoria, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Presentation of the United States Flag was made at the gravesite by the Goldfield American Legion Post. Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
