Trond L. “Tom” Wetterhus
22 March 1887 --- 15 March 1982

Tom L. Wetterhus, the son of Lars L. and Torbjorg Freim Wetterhus, was born on March 22, 1887 in Odda-Hardangar, Norway. He grew up in Norway. In April, 1903, Tom came to the United States and settled in the Estherville area. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1920, Mr. Wetterhus moved to Eagle Grove and was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. On Feburary 9, 1926, he was united in marriage with Madli Overhus at Roelyn, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters, Kristine, Thelma and Elizabeth. The family made their home in Eagle Grove and Tom worked for the railroad, until retiring in 1954. He was a long time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Clarence Shurtz No. 304 Post of the American Legion.

Two weeks ago, Mr. Wetterhus entered the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, where he died on Monday afternoon, March 15, 1982, at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 23 days.

He is survived by his wife, Madli of Eagle Grove; his daughters and sons-in-law, Kristine and Don Schipull of rural Goldfield; Thelma and Kenneth Lester of rural New Hampton; Elizabeth and Roy Azinger of Jerusalem, Israel; ten grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services for Tom L. Wetterhus, were held on Friday, March 19, 1982 at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Presentation of the American Flag to the family was made by the Clarence Shurtz Post of the American Legion. Visitation was held on Thursday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
