Rose E. Naughton, 103, formerly of Pocahontas, died Monday, March 8, 1999 at Grand View Height Nursing Home, Marshalltown.

Services were held at 10 a m., Saturday, March 27, 1999, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Marshalltown, with Father Jerry Kapacek officiating. Graveside burial services were held at Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove, by father Wayne Droessler officiating.

Casket bearers were great-grandchildren John Naughton, Fargo, ND; Nick Naughton, Dubuque; Julie Larson, Shenandoah; Scott Naughton, Marshalltown; Kris Naughton, Marshalltown, and Alan Naughton, Marshalltown.

Survivors Include son Richard Naughton, Marshalltown and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Arthur; and two sons James and Jerry.

Rose Elizabeth Klinger was born December 24, 1895, in Eagle Grove, to Herman and Mary Klinger. She had two brothers, and two sisters, and as a child she lived in a 14 x 28 house built by her father. She used to walk at least a half mile to school every day. She never missed school for anything. She went to school until she was fourteen years old. When she quit after the seventh grade, a lady who ran a milliner hat store look her in to teach her how to make and decorate hats. She was a milliner for many years after that. On November 22, 1921 [1922], Rose married Arthur Naughton at Pocahontas. Rose and Art Naughton had three sons James, Jerry and Richard. You rarely saw Rose without a hat on her head. She even wore one in the nursing home. The last one she wore was a Chicago Bulls Cap, as she enjoyed watching the games. After Rose married Art Naughton, the couple live in Pocahontas, where they farmed before, they opened the fifth food processing plant in the state at Pocahontas, which was Naughton’s Locker and Meal Market on Hwy 3.
