Matt B. Thielen died on Friday, December 28, 2001, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, at the age of 94.

Survivors include his wife, Isabel, Eagle Grove; one son, Thomas Thielen, and wife, Jean, Eagle Grove; one daughter, Maureen Thielen, Eagle Grove; three grandchildren; two brothers, Anthony Thielen, and wife, Dorothy, Batavia, Iowa, and Joseph Thielen, and wife, Myrt, Eagle Grove; and one sister, Betty Glowczewski, Storm Lake, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James Michael in 1982; four brothers, Peter, Theodore, Raymond, and John; and a sister, Coletta.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, December 31, at 10:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father David Beckman officiating. A Parish Vigil service was held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 30. Burial was held in the Calvary Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Matt B. Thielen, the son of Mathias and Mary Magdalen Wawers Thielen, was born on May 18, 1907, six miles east of Eagle Grove in Wright County, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth. He worked on different farms in Wright County. He moved to Eagle Grove in 1935 and worked in a hamburger shop. From 1938 to 1942, he owned and operated Wimpy's Cafe. In 1943, he went to Alaska to work for Greene Construction Company as a cook, returning to Eagle Grove in 1951. He was united in marriage with Isabel O'Toole on June 12, 1951, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. In 1951, he purchased Milady's Style Shop, which he changed to Thielen's Ready To Wear, and ran the business for ten years. He then worked for Leuthold-Griffith Clothes and M & M Products, retiring in 1972.

Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
