Donald Edward Bennett (1906-1980)

Donald Edward Bennett, the son of Jarvis and Faye Hall Bennett, was born at Pollock, Mo. On December 25, 1906. He died early Friday morning, Oct. 17, 1980 at the Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames, Iowa, after a brief illness. He attained the age of 73 years, nine months and 22 days.

He grew up in Missouri and in 1922 he moved to Emerson, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1924 to 1928. He was united in marriage with Mary Sands on January 18, 1930 at Red Oak, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Ruby, Ronald and Ruth. The family lived at Red Oak and in 1934, they moved to Humboldt. In 1942, they moved to a farm west of Goldfield where they lived and farmed until retiring and moving to Goldfield in 1972. He was a member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Goldfield; two daughters, Ruby Steffenson of Des Moines; Ruth Bennett of Fort Dodge; a son, Ronald and his wife, Lois Bennett of Goldfield; three grandchildren, John Steffenson, Lori Kiley and Lona Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, George.

Funeral services for Donald E. Bennett were held at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18. Rev. Kim Nelson, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Friday afternoon and evening.
