Services Held for Albin J. Nelson

Funeral services for Albin J. Nelson, were held at the Lake Lutheran Church on Friday, Sept 13, 1968 at 2:00 pm with internment at the Norway Lake Cemetery.

Pallbearers were G. A. Graves; Andrew Fuhr; Lewis Sampson; Curtis Nelson; Howard Harvey and Allen Korslund. The Wilson-Sandvig Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.

Albin J. Nelson, son of Oliver and Caroline Nelson, was born Sept 12, 1888 in Norway Township, rural Goldfield, Iowa, and passed away Tuesday evening, September 10, 1968 at the Clarion Memorial Hospital having reached the age of 79 years, 11 months and 28 days. He had been hospitalized since July 18th.

Mr. Nelson was one of five children born to his parents, and he attended the country school and Goldfield High School, where was graduated with the Class of 1908. He farmed with his father until 1917, at which time, he was married to Tillie Larson of Clarion, and they moved to their present home, where he resided until his hospitalization.

He was a member of the Lake Lutheran Church near Renwick. He was an active member of the Evergreen Sporting Association since 1908. He was an ardent sportsman, especially enjoying fishing, hunting and trapping. Another hobby was travel, both in this country and in Europe. He also loved music and enjoyed singing in choirs. He received much pleasure from his children, and especially his fourteen grandchildren. On February 28, 1967, Albin and Tillie celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

During the 1920’s and 1930’s, he raised pure-bred Spotted Poland China hogs, Shorthorn cattle and Shropshire sheep, and exhibited them at the fairs in Iowa. Sales were also held at the farm homestead.

Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Lyman, Joseph R. and Earl. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Tillie; 3 sons: Dr. Albin J. Nelson of Nashua; Robert E. Nelson of Eagle Grove; Orin L. Nelson of Webster City; 2 daughters, Mrs. Albert (LouCelle) Golden of Long Island, New York; Mrs. Robert (Carol) Schafer of Mahnomen, Minnesota; one sister, Mrs. Joe (Mildred) Osman, Racine, Wisconsin; and 14 grand-children.
