Esther Minnie Buhr, the daughter of William and Clara Beathke Ball, was born on March 31, 1914, at Maple Leaf in Howard County, Iowa. She died on Wednesday afternoon, June 18, 1980, at the Clarion Community Hospital in Clarion, Iowa after an extended illness. She attained the age of 66 years, two months and 17 days.

She attended the rural schools at Elma. On June 3, 1936, she was united in marriage with Werner E. Buhr of Elma at the Maple Leaf Lutheran Church at Elma. The family lived at Osage, Ames, Waterloo, Austin, Minn., Clarion and moved to Goldfield in 1956, where Mr. Buhr is the owner and operator of the Buhr Tree Service. Esther has been ill since October of 1979 and had been in the hospital. She was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Werner of Goldfield; her children: Wilfred Buhr of Eagle Grove; Weldon Buhr of Eagle Grove, Dewayne Buhr of Des Moines, Allen Buhr of Thor, Dallas Buhr of Eagle Grove, Ivan Buhr of Goldfield, LaVaonne (Mrs. Arnold) Lester of Rodgers, Ark., Pamela Kay (Mrs. Ernie) Lewis of Goldfield. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Hilda, Mrs. Kenneth Stevenson of Lime Springs, and Mrs. Mabel Kruger of Riceville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald, and two grandchildren.

One of Esther's special requests to her family before she died was that her six sons were to act as the casketbearers for her funeral.

Funeral services for Mrs. W. E. (Esther) Buhr of Goldfield were held on Saturday afternoon June 21 at the Goldfield United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Rev. Lester Hancock officiated and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove on Friday.
