Alexander – Mrs. Mary Polmateer, 83, formerly of Alexander, died at an Iowa City hospital. She had been living in Belmond the last several years and suffered a fall at her home there a week ago. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Belmond – Mary Polmateer, 83, died Tuesday at University Hospital, Iowa City. She had lived in the Belmond area most of her life.

Mrs. Polmateer was born Oct. 4, 1880, at Rowan, daughter of Charles and Mary (French) Calhoun.

Surviving are three sons, Alvy Polmateer, Shell Rock; Emil Polmateer, Hampton; George Polmateer, McCredie, Mo.; four daughters, Mrs. Floyd (Hattie) Davis, Northwood; Mrs. Lawrence (Ella) Dresher, Omaha; Mrs. Merrel [Merrold] (Vivian) Galloway, Mason City and Mrs. Carl (Edna) Oelberg, Clear Lake; 21 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Addie Cullum and Cynthia Black. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry Polmateer; daughter, Ruth Aigley, and son, Edwin, and five brothers and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fundamental Baptist Church at Belmond. The Rev. Louis Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. The Fuller Funeral Home, Belmond, is in charge.
