CHARLOTTE MARTENS
Charlotte Elizabeth Kaiser was born July 17, 1913, at Hammond, Ind., the daughter of Albert and Hattie Ladewig Kaiser. She received her education in Hammond. She was united in marriage to Walter Martens of Hammond at South Bend, Ind., on October 24, 1931. The couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1944.

Charlotte worked for Russell and Vera Blackman at the X-L Cleaners in Eagle Grove for many years, and worked as a seamstress for Fashions Unlimited in Eagle Grove. She was a member of the United Church of Christ; the White Shrine; Equality Club, (Bookworms, Music and Arts, and Sewing Departments); Cecilian Music Club; Oakridge Country Club, Goldfield; and Rotary Ann Auxiliary. Charlotte was very active in community affairs.

Charlotte E. Martens entered Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge on Sunday, January 28 after a sudden illness and died there on Monday, January 29, 1990, at the age of 76 years, six months, and 12 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by her husband; son, Dennis, Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Cynthia Beatty, Marion; four grandsons, and one great-grandson; two sisters, Katherine Hamilton, Highland, Ind.; and Amelia Cassady, Hammond, Ind.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove. The Rev.'s Kevin and Jo Cassiday Maloney, officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
