Claude Curtis Harrah, Sr.
3 August 1901 --- 28 August 1973

Claude C. Harrah, son of James and Alice Pace Harrah, was born August 3, 1901 in Indian Territory, which is now Oolegah, Okla. In 1913 he came with his parents Lehigh. Iowa in a covered wagon. The family lived in numerous communities before Claude's marriage to Birdie Bailey in Boone on October 8, 1925. To this union two children were born, Claude, Jr., and Mary Lou. The family moved to a farm south of Eagle Grove in 1941 and in December of 1944 they moved to the James farm west of town where he farmed until his retirement in December of 1966. At that time, they moved to their new home on an acreage one mile south of the James farm [Rural Route 3], where they resided until his unexpected death Tuesday evening, August 28, 1973. He was 72 years and 25 days of age at the time of his passing.

Claude was a former president and ardent member of the Eagle Grove Saddle Club of which he had a great deal to do with the organization of this club.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one son, Claude, Jr. in 1952. He is survived by his wife, Birdie; one daughter, Mary Lou (Mrs. Robert Caquelin) of Marion; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four brothers: Jess of Cedaredge, Colo.; Leo of LaPorte City; Woodrow of Paynesville, Minn.; and Robert of Glendale, Calif.; two sisters: Mrs. Lula Martin and Mrs. Dan Madison, both of Ft. Scott, Kansas.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 31, 1973 at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Emmett Braselton officiating. Interment was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
