Fern Nielson Blythe
Fern Nielson Blythe, 84, of Stratford, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Memorial Services of Remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2003, at the Kingdom Hall at Boone with Brother Tim Wells officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was held on October 16, 2003 at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City.

Fern Leona Beck was born on November 30, 1918 at Alden, the daughter of Riley and Dessie (Underwood) Beck. She attended rural schools in the Duncombe-Lehigh area, and Fort Dodge High school. On December 12, 1936 she married Charles (Bus) Nielson at Fort Dodge. To this union five children were born. The couple resided in Eagle Grove, Des Moines, and then farmed near Osceola.

Mr. Nielson died on January 26, 1973. On June 14, 1974 she married Lawrence Erdman at Clarion. The couple farmed near Wesley. Mr. Erdman died December 13, 1983. On April 28, 1988 she married Percy Jarnagin at Webster City. The couple resided at Eagle Grove. Mr. Jarnagin died January 28, 1993. On March 18, 1995 she married George Blythe at Clarion. The couple resided near Mt. Pleasant. In July of 1999 they moved to Stratford. She had worked at Wilson Meat Packing at Rotary Ann Care Center, both at Eagle Grove, and housekeeping for area people. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Jehovah's
Witness of Boone.

She is survived by her husband, George; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Mary Alice Nielson of Sturgeon, Mo.; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy and Gilbert Schwering, of Stratford; Betty Stephenson of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Glen Beck, of Portland, Or.; a sister, Cora Wiese, of Janesville, Wisc.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by sons Jackie and Tommy Nielson; her parents; brothers, Robert, Leonard, and Floyd Beck; and a sister, Mildred Highland. Foster Funeral Home in Webster City is in charge of the arrangements.
