Alice Glee Rice Nicol
13 April 1911 --- 21 December 1970

Alice Glee Rice was born April 13, 1911 at Webster City, the daughter of William N. and Augusta Pearson Rice. She attended school at Renwick. She was united in marriage to John Melvin Nicol of Eden Valley, Minn. at Garner, Iowa on October 27, 1930. The young couple then made their home at Skyberg, Minn. for 3 years. In 1933, they moved to the Eagle Grove area. They farmed in the Eagle Grove vicinity until 1958. Since that time, they have lived in Eagle Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. Nicol became the parents of four daughters, all of whom survive her. Mrs. Nicol had been ill for some time and passed away at her home on Monday, December 21, at the age of 59 years, 8 months, and 8 days.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin, 4 daughters, Mavis, Mrs. Robert Rausch, Rochester, Minn.; Mary, Mrs. James Moffitt, Eagle Grove; Shirley, Mrs. Harold Hilpipre, Baxter; Rosalie, Mrs. Garry Rollins, Des Moines; and 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Mrs. Pearl M. Smith, Ames; Mrs. Lillian M. Hansen, Clear Lake; and Mrs. Mae William C. Briggs, Webster City. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Nicol was a devout member of the 1st Baptist Church of Eagle Grove, Esther Circle, and the Ruthean Sunday School Class. She was past county treasurer of the WCTU.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 24 at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Lon Schneider officiated, and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
