Harold A. Thorne, 79, longtime Eagle Grove-Woolstock resident, died Tuesday evening at his home in Woolstock. He had been in ill health the past three years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. John Hembry officiating and with burial in the Cass Center cemetery. Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Harold Albert Thorne, son of Earl and Amanda Wolff Thorne, was born Nov. 21, 1904 at Eagle Grove where he was reared and educated. As a boy he was a member of the Baptist church in Eagle Grove, later transferring his membership to the United Methodist church in Woolstock. He was married June 12, 1927 to Hila Weedman of Woolstock and the couple resided in Eagle Grove for a short time, later moving to Woolstock where Mr. Thorne engaged in the oil and feed grinding business. He was later employed at the Franklin Mfg. Co until his retirement in 1970.

He is survived b> his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Marlene) Johnson of Atlanta, Mo., four grandchildren, Douglas Johnson of Columbia, Mo, Debra Johnson, Darla Johnson and Darren Johnson, all of Atlanta, two great-grandchildren, Laura Ann Johnson and Michael Johnson, also an uncle, Walter Thorne of Eagle Grove and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
