Martha Malinda Baker Conaway
9 May 1897 --- 31 December 1969

Martha Malinda Baker was born May 9, 1897 at Eagle Grove, the daughter of Jacob and Belle Johnson Baker. She attended school in Eagle Grove. She was united in marriage to Orland Conaway of Eagle Grove on Jan. 17, 1919 at Eagle Grove. The couple became the parents of six children, three of whom survive.

From 1941 to 1950, she resided in Waterloo where she was employed as a seamstress for the (??) Mfg. Co. She returned to Eagle Grove to make her home in 1950.

She had been living at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louis Willard since July of 1969 and had been in ill health for some time.

She died Wednesday, December 31st at her home at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 22 days.

She is survived by three daughters, Virginia (Mrs. Fred Wilson) of Long Beach, Calif.; Jean (Mrs. Louis Willard) of Eagle Grove; and Patricia (Mrs. Jerry Schultz) of Eagle Grove; also, two brothers, Jacob M. Baker of Eagle Grove; and Carl G. Baker of Eagle Grove; and three sisters: Mrs. Hannah Adams, Seattle, Wash.; Mable Johnson, Eagle Grove and Mrs. Margaret Darland, Eagle Grove; 29 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter and two sons, one of whom, Orland, Jr. was killed in World War II.

Mrs. Conaway was a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were held Saturday January 3, at 2 p.m. at the Samuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Marvin L. Dooley officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
