Dora Irene (Cornelius) Metheny
February 21, 1918 --- October 27, 1978

Dora Irene Cornelius, the daughter of Jacob E. and Kitty Bickford Cornelius, was born February 21, 1918, at Pella, Ia. She graduated from Rippey High School and later attended the Junior College at Eagle Grove. She also attended the Iowa Commission for the Blind in Des Moines in 1963. In 1940 she married Vincent R. Metheny of Perry at the Swedish Lutheran Church at Ogden. They came to Eagle Grove in 1943 from Burlington. Irene died Friday, Oct. 27, 1978 in an automobile accident east of Rowan.

Survivors include her husband, Vincent; two sons: Douglas Metheny, Kansas City, Mo. and Jan Metheny, Des Moines; one daughter, Kitty Metheny, Columbia, S.C.; her parents, Jacob E. Cornelius, Pella, and Mrs. Kitty Wilfong, Perry; three brothers: Ira Cornelius, Fullerton, Calif.; Harold Wilfong, Deer Park, Long Island, N.Y.; and Finley Wilfong, North Fryeburg, Maine; two sisters: June E. Cornelius, Des Moines, and Mary
Katherine Towne, Jamaica, Ia. and two grandchildren: Jack Vincent and Jessica Irene Metheny. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dolly Irene Metheny.

She was a member of the Holmes Baptist Church, a past member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and
was an active lecturer on a wide variety of subjects.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 30, 1978 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holmes Baptist Church,
Holmes. Rev. Phillip Halverson officiated and burial was in the Violet Hill Cemetery, Perry.
