Anne Ellen Ballard
1 January 1876 --- 6 December 1965

Miss Anne Ballard, 89, died Monday night in Mercy hospital, Fort Dodge, where she had been a patient for the past eight years. Funeral services will be held this morning at 8 o'clock at Sacred Heart church in charge of Rev. Francis Phelan. Burial will be in the Ballard family lot in Rose Hill cemetery.

Miss Ballard is survived by her nephew, Bernard Ballard of Wheaton, Ill. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Miss Ballard fell in her home on South Iowa Ave. where she lived alone, on Nov. 11, 1957 and suffered a broken hip. At the time she was seriously ill and it was thought she could not recover from the ordeal but she did, and her nephew, Bernard, made it possible that she be cared for, for the rest of her life in Mercy hospital.

She was a long time Eagle Grove resident moving here with her mother, Mrs. Anna Ballard, her sister, Katherine, and brothers Ed and Bernard from Toledo, Iowa when she was a young girl.

She taught in the old Eagle Grove Elementary School on the spot where the Eagle Grove high school now stands, and several here this week who heard of her death remarked "she was my teacher in the third grade and was a good one".

Later she took up secretarial work and for years was secretary for Sylvester Flynn, and later was John Henneberry's secretary and worked for many years in the offices of Mr. Henneberry and Knudsen Realty.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic church and the Eagle Grove Woman's Club.
