Joanne Lea Kaplan Kubik
11 January 1942 --- 11 July 1963

Joanne Lea Kubik was born Jan. 12, 1942 to parents Mr. and Mrs. John Kaplan in Eagle Grove.

She attended the Eagle Grove Schools and in May 1959 was married to Gary L. Kubik. One daughter Teressa was born to this union.

Joanne was employed at the Eagle Grove State Bank, and at the time of her death on Thursday, July 11, was employed at the Citizen's First National Bank in Storm Lake.

She is survived by her daughter, her parents, three sisters, Mrs. Helen Dirlam of Des Moines; Mrs. Robert Comstock; and Mrs. Harry Lewright, Jr. of Eagle Grove.

She was a member of the First Congregational church.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the First Congregational church, Eagle Grove in charge of the pastor Rev. Ivan Smith and a former pastor Rev. Dale Brown of Atlantic. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Joanne Kaplan Kubik, 22, were held in the First Congregational church here Saturday, July 13. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Ivan Smith, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Dale Brown of Atlantic, a former pastor, were in charge of the services.

Mrs. Kubik was found dead in her apartment in Storm Lake, Iowa about 10 a.m. Thursday, July 11. Investigation by the Buena Vista County sheriff indicated that Mrs. Kubik had died of an overdose of sedatives presumably administered by her own hand. He added "A note of directions was found."

Mrs. Kubik reported for work on Thursday morning at the Citizens First National Bank in Storm Lake as usual. About 9:30 she complained of being sick and went to her apartment. Her body was discovered a short time later.

Mrs. Kubik was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kaplan of this city and attended the Eagle Grove schools. In May 1959 she was married to Gary L. Kubik also of Eagle Grove. The young couple moved to Storm Lake where Mr. Kubik attended and graduated from Buena Vista college. Mrs. Kubik was granted a divorce from her husband just a short time prior to her death.
