Betty Jane (Armstrong) Schaumberg Janssen
6 April 1941 --- 28 February 1990

Betty Janssen was born at Clarion to Robert and Viola Armstrong, and educated in Eagle Grove where she graduated from high school in 1959. She married Ervin Janssen in 1964 at Blue Earth, Minn. The couple lived in Eagle Grove and moved to Humboldt where they lived for 15 years. They moved to Sweetwater, Tenn., in 1988. She was employed as an assistant warehouse manager for the Schwanns Company. She was attending college at Knoxville where she was studying computer science.

Betty Janssen, 48, died Wednesday, February 28, 1990, at the U. T. Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn., following a car accident. She is survived by her husband, Ervin; daughter, Crystal Janssen, Sweetwater; son, Karl, Harrodsburg, Ky.; Robert, Welch, Minn.; three grandchildren; parents, Robert and Viola Armstrong, Eagle Grove; sister, Helen Campbell, Bentonville, Ark.; and brother Douglas Armstrong, Des Moines.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5 at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Knolhoff officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

A former Eagle Grove woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident near Knoxville, Tenn., Wednesday, February 28. Betty Janssen, 48, Sweetwater, Tenn., daughter of Robert and Viola Armstrong, Eagle Grove, died at the U. T. Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn., after the car she was driving was struck by a semi-tractor. The accident occurred as Janssen was southbound in the left lane of traffic on 1-75 south of Knoxville. A semi-tractor, pulling two other tractors piggy-back, was also southbound. The driver of the semi-tractor changed from the right lane into the left lane, striking the Janssen vehicle, causing Janssen to run into the median and her car turned over. Janssen was thrown from the vehicle. Charges of improper lane change have been filed against the driver of the semi-tractor. The accident was investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
