Irma E. (Nervig) Nervig

Irma E. Nervig, the daughter of Omen and Sophie Smith Nervig, was born near Hardy, Iowa, on August 25, 1906. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She grew up and attended the rural schools near the family farm. Irma graduated from the Goldfield High School in the Class of 1927 and attended the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. For a few years, she taught in the Humboldt County rural schools.

On August 24, 1927, she was united in marriage with Omen Edward Nervig at Hardy, Iowa. To this union were born two sons: Edward and Stanley. The family farmed near Hardy until 1953, when Omen and Irma retired and moved to Eagle Grove. Mr. Nervig died in 1974.

Irma had been a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North for the past five weeks and had been a patient at the Humboldt Hospital for four days. She died at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital on Saturday afternoon, September 25, 1982 at the age of 76 years and one month. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove and the Rotary Ann Auxiliary in Eagle Grove.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-laws, Edward and his wife, Joyce L. Nervig of rural Hardy, Iowa; Stanley and his wife, Joyce E. Nervig of Marcus, Iowa; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville J. Nervig of Humboldt; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Ramsey of Nampa, Idaho, and Mrs. Mildred Yocum of Caldwell, Idaho; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services for Mrs. Irma E.Nervig were held Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1982 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated and burial was in the family lot at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Hardy. Visitation was held on Monday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
