Azile Leone (Goslin) Espe
2 January 1914 ---- 3 June 1994

Azile L. Espe, 80, died on Friday, June 3, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Funeral services for Azile L. Espe were held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church, Kanawha. The Reverend David Lee, the Rev. Charles Espe, and The Reverend Mark Sherwindt officiated. Interment was in the Norway Cemetery, Kanawha. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. on Sunday at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, Minnesota, and from 3 - 7 p.m. on Monday at Ewing Funeral Home, Kanawha.

Azile was born on January 2, 1914, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, the daughter of Harry and Aran (Huntley) Goslin. As a young child, her family moved to Clarion where she graduated from high school. On February 14, 1933, she married Harlan C. Espe in Clarion. Following the marriage, they lived and farmed northwest of Clarion. In 1973, they retired and moved into Clarion. In 1991, Azile entered the New Richland Care Center, New Richland, Minnesota, to be near her son, Charles. Azile had been an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church, near Kanawha. She enjoyed being a Bible study leader.

She enjoyed taking care of her home and family, and in her later years, Azile loved sharing her delicious baked goods with others.

Azile is survived by 4 children: Rev. Charles Espe and his wife Kathy of New Richland, Minnesota; Paul Espe and his wife, Connee of Burt; Joanne Espe Lillo and her husband Obie Lillo of Woodbury, Minnesota; Marilyn Espe Sherwindt and her husband Rev. Mark Sherwindt of Tallmadge, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 4 greatgrandchildren; sisters in-law Gladys Russell of Kanawha; Frances Espe of Portland, Oregon, and brother-in-law, Lawrence Espe and his wife Alice of Clarion; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Harlan in 1978.
