Goldfield Gazette

A Swede by the name of Peterson who resides about three and one-half miles northeast of here, is supposed to have frozen to death in the storm of Friday evening. He was at Eagle Grove on Friday and started to walk home in the afternoon, following the railroad track as far as Thrall, reaching there about night. He then started across the prairie for home, since which time nothing has been seen or heard of him. His neighbors have been searching the prairie for him, but it is probable that if frozen he will not be found until the snow goes off.

Later. — Mr. Peterson's body was found on Monday beside a hay stack within about a quarter of a mile from where he lived. It appears that he found the stack and dug a hole into which he took refuge from the storm, but he must have come out again as he was found just outside.

During last week three of our fellow citizens went to their long resting place in our city of the dead. On Wednesday Mr. Peterson of Thrall, who was frozen to death in his attempt to reach home was buried here and as those who had borne him to the grave were returning from the cemetery were met by the funeral procession following the body of Mr. J. C. Palmer, who had been for a number of years one of our most highly esteemed citizens. On Friday Mr. Walter Belknap, another cordially respected citizen was buried. The death angel has reaped an abundant harvest and has taken from our midst those whom we loved to honor and respect, and taught us still more impressively that all flesh is mortal.
