John R. Schwenck
17 January 1866 ---- 2 August 1959

John R. Schwenck, son of Hyacinth and Elizabeth Schwenck, was born near Lake City, Minn. on Jan. 17, 1866 and passed away in Eagle Grove on Aug. 2. His family came in a caravan to Iowa in 1871 and settled on a farm west of Eagle Grove, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Vorre. He attended the rural and community schools. He was baptized in the German Methodist Church and later joined the Methodist Church of Eagle Grove as a young man where he has been a life-long member. He cared for his father and mother until they passed away in 1910 and 1919.

He located in Saskatchewan, Canada in 1921, where he farmed until his retirement when he moved to Luseland, Saskatchewan, where he was cared for by Mrs. Edith Weatherby. In 1956 he returned to Eagle Grove where he has been cared for in the home of Miss Ella Martfeld. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Bastian and Mrs. Louise Martfeld; also, by four brothers, August, Charles, Edwin, and Horace. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Aug. 5th at the Sacquety Chapel in charge of Rev. Roy Cox. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
