Edith I. Spangler, 86, of Eagle Grove, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove with Rev. Paul Peebler officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Edith I. Spangler was born October 14, 1917, on a farm in Humboldt County, near Goldfield. The daughter of Nels P. and Fredericka A. (Matson) Peterson. She attended Lake #7 country school. On February 19, 1940, she married Carroll Spangler at Humboldt, sharing 64 years together. They made their home in Eagle Grove and have lived on the farm for 50 years, where Edith worked with Carroll and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rutheans, a Sunday School group. She also belonged to the Know Your Neighbor Club. Edith enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Carroll Sr., of Eagle Grove; six children: Ron E. Spangler, and his wife, Linda, of Eagle Grove; Carroll Spangler, Jr., and his wife, Shirley, of Iowa Falls; Mel D. Spangler, and his wife, Leanne, of Littleton, Colo.; Fred A. Spangler, and his wife, Shirley, of Eagle Grove; Marion L. Cutalo, and her husband, Richard, of Little River, S.C.; and Alvin R. Spangler, of Eagle Grove; Anita Idio, widow of Curt Spangler, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, brothers, George S. Peterson and Clarence Peterson, both of Clarion, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Curtis Spangler and David Spangler; brothers, Joseph Peterson, William Peterson, Ruben Peterson, and Lawrence Peterson, and a sister, Ruth Halverson.

Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
