Adeline Sarah Jondro Spurling
29 December 1858 ---- 3 August 1911

Mrs. Sol Spurlin, mother of Mrs. B. F. West, died at an early hour Sunday morning as a result of an attack of heart trouble Saturday afternoon. She was busy about the house, wiping up the floors, when she was suddenly seized with a fainting spell, to which she has been subject for some time, and death followed several hours later. Mrs. West, who had been spending the week with the members of the Maple Leaf club at Clear Lake, did not reach home until Sunday morning, about thirty minutes after her mother expired.

Funeral services were held at the home yesterday at 1:45 p. m., conducted by Rev. H. C. Littleton of the Christian church and the same afternoon the remains were taken to Eagle Grove to be buried by the side of her father.

Mrs. Spurlin was born at Montreal, Canada, and came to Iowa with her parents when a child, living at Marshalltown, Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge before coming to Clarion. At the time of her death deceased was aged 53 years, 7 months and 14 days. She and her husband with their two children who remain at home came to this city from Fort Dodge only five weeks ago and were scarcely settled in their new home. The son, Reeve Spurlin, is a brakeman on the Great Western and Clara, the youngest, is about fourteen years of age. There are three other children, Mrs. B. F. West of Clarion and Fred Spurlin and Mrs. W. E. Messenger, of Fort Dodge.

Although Mrs. Spurlin had been a resident here for a very short time she is well spoken of by all who made her acquaintance. She was a member of the Baptist church at Fort Dodge and was known to possess a Christian character and to be devoted to her family and friends. Her grandfather, Aaron Tilton of Marshalltown, was here to attend the funeral.
