August 1, 1938 --- September 24, 1992

James R. Hill was born August 1, 1938, in Eagle Grove to James and Lucille (Lamb) Hill. He entered the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years, retiring in 1977 as PR-1 (E-6). He retired at Lemoore, Calif., and moved to Oak Harbor that same year. For the past 13 years he had been employed by Morale, Welfare and Recreation Special Services at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station. He was a member of the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church, Whidbey Island Lodge No. 15, F&AM, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7392 of Oak Harbor, Scottish Rite of Bellingham, the Oak Harbor Shrine and Whidbey Island Court No. 65, Order of Amaranth. He was Past Master of the Garfield Lodge, No. 41, F&AM of La Conner.

James R. Hill, 54, of Oak Harbor, Wash., died September 24, 1992, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Suzy, Oak Harbor; two children, Beth deSalome of Marysville and James "Chip" Hill of Lynnwood; two stepchildren, Tammy Toczek of Graham and Steve Jacobs of Oak Harbor; seven grandchildren; his mother, Lucille Hill of Eagle Grove; five brothers and sisters, Robert Hill, Bonnie Brayton and Dolly Meyers, all of Eagle Grove; Bruce Hill of Webster City; and Donna Hill of Nebraska.

Funeral services were held September 27 at the Chapel of the Burley Funeral Home with the Whidbey Island Lodge No. 15 F&AM officiating. Interment followed at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorials may be made to the Shrine Hospital.
