Carrie Helena Iversdatter Bang Matson
20 March 1875 ---- 10 June 1956

Mrs. Carrie (Bang) Matson was born of parents, Iver and Maren Bang at Lofoten, [Nordland fylke, Norway], March 20, 1874. She came to America with her parents in 1880. The Bang family made their home in Humboldt county. She received instruction in the Christian faith and was confirmed by Pastor M. G. Hanson. She passed away at the home of her son, Howard, at Northlake, Ill., Sunday June 10, 12:06 p.m.

November 6, 1901, she was united in marriage to Rasme Matson. They established their home in Hamilton county, Iowa. Since that time, they lived in Minnesota, Illinois, and later back to Iowa. She was a resident in this vicinity the greater part of her life.

The last two years she was in failing health. She suffered three strokes within the last year and passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Howard, at Northlake, where Mr. and Mrs. Matson had been staying since last December.

Mrs. Matson was a member of Samuel Evangelical Lutheran church and was a faithful and active member as long as her health permitted.

She was a good, patient, and devout wife and mother.

Mrs. Matson was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Irvin, who died at the age of 16 months and a daughter, Florence, who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Ralph at Seattle, Wash., Howard at Northlake, Ill., three daughters, Stella (Mrs. Stella Hill), San Diego, Calif.. Ruthi (Mrs. Chris Smed), Minneapolis, Minn.; Marie, (Mrs. Ubba Gottfreid), Kanawha, Iowa: seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one brother, Freeman Bang, of Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Funeral services were held from Sacquety Funeral Chapel, 1:30 p.m. and Samuel Evangelical Lutheran church Wednesday June 13, 1956 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor B. F. Molstre officiated. Casket bearers were Carl Sunner, H. J. Luthro, Ole Mandsager, C. A. Johnson, Arthur Alexander, and Olaf Amdahl. Mrs. Ole Mandsager and Mrs. Alfred Jacobson sang at the service. Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery.
