James Strang Lerdal
28 February 1911 ---- 14 January 1985

James Strang Lerdal was born Feb. 28, 1911 at Thor, Iowa to Lawrence and Jessie Strang Lerdal.
He received his education at Renwick, graduating from Renwick High School in 1928. He also graduated from Iowa State University at Ames in 1938. After graduating from college, James taught at the Annie Wittenmeyer Home in Davenport, Iowa. He then served his country in World War II in the Army. After the war, James was married to Ruth Meyer at Britt, Iowa on May 9, 1948. They farmed around Renwick until he retired in 1976. James was a member of the Lake Lutheran Church, rural Renwick, and attended the Renwick United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Harvey-McPeak American Legion Post No. 289 of Renwick.

James died Monday, Jan. 14, 1985 at the Humboldt Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 73. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of rural Goldfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Bill James of Iowa City; two sons, James of Des Moines, and John of North Liberty; and one grandson, Jeremy James. Also surviving are two brothers, Donovan of Goldfield, and Lawrence of Humboldt. James was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mina Harvey.

Funeral services for James S. Lerdal were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 17, 1985 at the United Methodist Church, Renwick, with Rev. Gerald Armstrong officiating. Burial was in Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Hardy.
