Gerhard Severin Hanson
6 April 1885 ---- 27 February 1963Gerhard Severin Hanson was born April 6, 1885 in Humboldt County to Halver and Christina Humlevik Hanson. His mother died when he was less than two, so he was raised by foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Henryson of Story City. He attended Lutheran Normal School at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
On Feb 21, 1907 he married Sunniva Borge of Decorah, Iowa, after which they farmed southwest of Eagle Grove for 35 years. In 1942 they moved to the Eagle Grove home in which he died.
He was a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church since about 1920 and served as Trustee for many years.
He was secretary of the local Farmer's Coop for 25 years and of the local fair for several years. He was active in Rotary and community affairs.
He is survived by his wife, Sunniva, 2 sons, Kermit of Seattle, Washington, and Robert of Eagle Grove, and 2 daughters, Aagot, Mrs. Alvin Theilig of Eagle Grove, and Helen Hanson of Minneapolis, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his foster parents, and one sister.
