After a lingering illness lasting over a period of several months, Calvin C. Wise died at his home on South Commercial Ave. Friday, June 28. Mr. Wise was one of the best known and most popular conductors on the entire Northwestern system. His genial and obliging ways endeared him to thousands of the patrons of the company all over the Northern Iowa Division. The company fellow employees and the public join in extending sincerest sympathy to the bereaved widow and daughter in the hour of their great sorrow.

No. 3 On Seniority List

At the time of his death, Cond. Wise was No. 3 on the Northern Iowa Division seniority list. He entered the service of the Northwestern as brakeman Nov. 1, 1887 and was promoted to freight conductor the following year. He began running passenger train in the late nineties and was back and forth from freight to passenger service, depending on business conditions on the railroad.

Obituary

Calvin C. Wise was born at Urbana, Indiana, March 13, 1861, and died at his home in Eagle Grove, Iowa, June 28, 1929, aged 63 years, three months, and 15 days.

The deceased was the son of William Wise. On Dec. 1, 1889 he was married to Miss Margaret Grisamore at Allerton, Iowa. Following their marriage, they came to Eagle Grove and have resided here almost continuously since that time, a period of nearly 40 years. There were born to them two children, a daughter, now Mrs. Clarence Ellis of Oak Park, Ill., and another daughter who died in infancy. Besides his wife and daughter, Mr. Wise leaves a sister, Mrs. Emma Hayes of Chicago, Ill., and two grandchildren, Lee, and Maxine Ellis.

Mr. Wise spent almost the entire period of his active life in the service of the Chicago and Northwestern railroad.
