Leva Jorgina Knudson
3 April 1877 ---- 8 April 1928

Leva Knudson died at her home on South Commercial avenue Sunday afternoon, April 8th, after two weeks sickness which developed into pneumonia. The following deserved tribute and history of Miss Knudson's life was read at the funeral service, which was held at the West Side Lutheran church, Wednesday afternoon.

Obituary

Leva Jorgine Knudson was born on a farm three and a half miles west of Eagle Grove, in Humboldt county, Iowa April 3, 1877. The names of her parents being Lars and Anna Knudson.

She was baptized into our holy Christian faith by Rev. Hendrickson and was a member of the Norway Lutheran congregation. She also received a good Christian bringing up both at home and in the school of religious instruction and was prepared for confirmation by Rev. C. J. Eastvold. Later, she took a stand for Christ during a series of revival meetings in the Methodist church. She was for many years organist in the Norway Lutheran congregation.

The L. L. Knudson family moved to Eagle Grove in 1914, and Leva has lived here ever since.

She was taken sick with pleurisy about two weeks before her departure. Pneumonia and other complications developed and though her condition seemed hopeful for a while it gradually became evident that the end was at hand.

She died Sunday, April 8, 1928, at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. We hope and believe, which she had also confessed, that she died in the faith of Jesus Christ and went to be with her Savior and those who had gone home before her. Her age was 51 years and five days.

Those who are left behind to mourn the loss of a very dear and devoted daughter and sister are the following, her father, Lars L. Knudson; three brothers, namely, John, Linsworth, and Allen; two sisters, Emma, and Nellie (Mrs. Sivert Westvold. all of Eagle Grove, Iowa; besides many other relatives and friends.

Her mother, Anna Knudson, died June 8, 1902 and a brother, Prof. Lars Knudson, who was teaching at Jewell Lutheran college, died October 28, 1918.

It might be added that the departed sister sprang from the old Norwegian pioneer stock in this country. Her grandparents on her father's side were Lars and Leva Knudson (Aasland) from the Hjelmeland parish near Stavanger and who came to this country in 1850. Her great grandparents on mothers’ side were Ole and Anna Bergeland from the same parish. They came to this country a little later in 1852. They were all confessing Christians the spiritual children of John Haugvaldstad the famous lay preacher. They were of the earliest settlers in the Stavanger settlement, near Ossian, Iowa. Here they engaged in spiritual work among the early setters. Old Anna Bergeland in particular was noted for the part she took in all evangelistic work.

The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the West Side Lutheran church. Rev. Muhleman and Rev. P. Ljostveit were in charge. Rev. T. J. Severtson also spoke. A very large number of people were present to extend their sympathy with the bereaved family. May God comfort and strengthen our friends in their bereavement.
