Ocheyedan

Jennette B. Stein was born to John and Isabella Stein August 18, 1862 at Ratho, Ontario, Canada and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chas. E. Manby at Ocheyedan Nov. 6, 1949 at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 18 days.

She moved with her parents to this country at the age of three, first settling in Linn county, Iowa, later moving to Tama county and finally to Reinbeck, in Grundy county, where she grew to womanhood.

She was the eldest of nine children. Her parents, two sisters and two brothers preceeded her in death.

She was married to J. S. Smith at Grundy Center in Grundy county, July 3, 1881 [1882]. To this union were born seven children, five of home and her husband preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, one daughter, Mrs. Chas. E. Manby at Ocheyedan, one son, Leonard Smith of Goldfield and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Walton in Maryland, Mrs. J. H. Shimer, Forest City, Mrs. J. H. Thomas, Spirit Lake and Mrs. F. C. Stevens, Waterloo. Eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives survive.

She was laid to rest in Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield, which had been her home for over sixty years.
