Obituary
David J. Price was born in Wales February 29, 1840, being 82 years, and 17 days of age at the time of his death last Sunday morning. He married Miss Sarah Evans March 15th, 1870, just prior to coming to the United States. He lived in Missouri and Wisconsin prior to coming to Iowa, setting first on Eagle Creek in 1872. He always engaged in farming and was very successful. He later bought the small farm just east of the city limits and about twenty years ago moved to Eagle Grove, where he has lived in retirement.
In 1887 Mr. and Mrs. Price made their first trip back to Wales and also made one trip after that, two in all. He was a faithful member of the Baptist church and a most generous contributor. As stated above, Deacon and Mrs. Price presented the church with its first parsonage, which was later traded for the location on which the present parsonage now stands.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, and the burial was in Rose Hill cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Price had no children. Leslie Coates made his home with them for many years. They educated him in the Eagle Grove schools and later sent him through Ames. He was never legally adopted. He is now living a useful life as a civil engineer at Pittsburg, Pa. He also leaves three brothers and two sisters in Wales.
Mr. Price's entire life with that of his good wife, has been dedicated to the service and help of his fellow men and his church. He was an honest, square dealing citizen whose word was as good as the moral law. Many friends extend to the bereaved widow their sincere sympathy.
